On Sunday, Urban, 21, and Ehlers, 20, were arrested for venturing a minor’s weal and trying to admit compensation for giving up their child, as detailed in a probable cause affidavit from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

On September 21, authorities were advised by the director of Beaver Lake Hide-A-Way Campground in Rogers, Arkansas. The frequenter reported that the couple had offered their baby for a six- pack of beer and latterly requested$ 1,000. The frequenter also mentioned that the parents had written a letter for a implicit adopter, indicating that their baby demanded medical care.

The affidavit stated that authorities arrived on the scene and spoke with several substantiations. It noted that a contract was set up, inked by Urban and Ehlers, trying to transfer guardianship of their child to a man named Cody Nathaniel Martin.

The letter read, “ We, Darien Urban and Shalene Ehlers, are subscribing our rights over to Cody Nathaniel Martin for$ 1,000 on 09/21/2024. Disclaimer After subscribing, there will be no changing your minds, and you should n’t communicate us again. ”

In addition to the letter, the deputy reportedly set up cell phone footage showing Civic and Ehlers subscribing the document for Martin.

According to the affidavit, the attempt to arrange the relinquishment began with a beer exchange. A man named Ricky Crawford visited Urban and Ehlers at their trailer and asked to look after their baby, offering beer in return. Crawford latterly told police that he sought the child out of concern for the baby’s weal.

He requested to take the baby overnight and handed several barrels of beer to Urban and Ehlers in exchange. They agreed and handed over the baby and a diaper bag to Crawford, who also took the child to Martin at another trailer. Urban and Ehlers latterly arrived at that trailer and spoke with Martin and Crawford before subscribing the letter.

Authorities noted that Martin, who appeared to be heavily intoxicated during questioning, admitted to drafting the letter for the couple. Although he did n’t give any plutocrat at that time, he claimed he’d arrange a cashier’s check for$ 1,000 on Monday.

The affidavit stated that when authorities brazened Urban and Ehlers at their trailer and asked about their child, Urban replied that the baby was with Cody for relinquishment, while Ehlers said the baby was with Crawford for the night. Both were latterly detained and taken to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office for farther questioning.

During their interviews, Urban and Ehlers handed harmonious accounts of the events. They explained that Crawford had come to their trailer and requested to take the baby for the night, to which they agreed. They also went to the trailer where the baby was and bandied surrendering the child to Martin in exchange for$ 1,000 in cash. Martin prepared a written agreement, which they mugged to insure it was legal, and they planned to finalize the arrangement on Monday, believing the baby was given to Martin for$ 1,000 to be collected also.

The document also indicated that the operative canvassed other substantiations present at the campground. These substantiations reported that Ehlers had approached the trailer of Jason and Felicia Ayers to request beer, which they claimed was a common circumstance. After the Ayers refused, Crawford allegedly offered Urban and Ehlers beer in exchange for” having the baby for the night.” According to the affidavit, Crawford left and also returned with the baby, who was in a diaper.

Felicia Ayers informed authorities about the baby’s concerning condition. She described a strong ammonia and fecal odor coming from the child and noted that the diaper was full. After changing the baby’s diaper, she observed a severe rash, pocks, and swelling on the baby’s buttocks and genitals, along with canine hair inside the diaper. She also handed prints showing the baby’s rash and pocks.

Martin, the intended adopter, reported that Ehlers explained her reasons for wanting to give up her baby, stating that managing three tykes and a baby was n’t doable for her.

Authorities noted that Martin not only drafted the document but also had Jason Ayers record Urban and Ehlers subscribing the contract before waking the hutment proprietor, who also communicated 911.

Urban and Ehlers were arrested and charged, with their baby boy taken to a sanitarium for care. The disquisition suggested that both Urban and Ehlers had created a significant threat of death or serious injury to their child by originally leaving him with an obviously enraptured man and latterly with someone they did n’t know.

Records from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office show that both Urban and Ehlers were held on$ 50,000 bail. Urban was released on Monday, while Ehlers remained in guardianship.
